IS IT GAME OVER FOR THE PUBLIC PROTECTOR?  

 

Our submission (read more here) was not our only action aimed at exposing Mkhwebane’s lack of fitness to hold this important position. After taking office in October 2016, she often failed the country in exercising her constitutional duties, illustrated by the numerous court findings against her. We also sent an additional submission to Parliament, laid criminal charges against her (22 August 2019) and challenged her findings which exonerated former Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza (now Deputy President) from procurement irregularities on luxury vehicles purchased for his use. 

Mkhwebane’s term will come to an end in October 2023, and it is our view that she did a lot of harm to the reputation of this important Chapter 9 institution. The sooner she is removed from this position, the better. Read our statement here
