Get SABC’s money back from Hlaudi

“He was suspended for a lengthy period on full pay and he should repay this salary because he broke the terms of his suspension by going to the SABC. We’d also like to see the SABC claiming back the substantial R11 million ill-gotten bonus he negotiated from the shady MultiChoice deal, preferably with interest,” says Dominique Msibi, OUTA’s portfolio director for social services.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) filed criminal charges against Motsoeneng months ago but has yet to see any action by the law-enforcement agencies.

“OUTA laid criminal charges against Motsoeneng and others in December 2016 but we’ve been unable to get any feedback from the authorities – including Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula – on any progress on that matter. We hope they haven’t abandoned it, as his conduct certainly merits prosecution. We certainly aren’t dropping it,” says Msibi.

OUTA welcomed the SABC board’s decisive action against Motsoeneng.

“Well done to the interim board and those who had the courage to bring an end to the unholy reign of this once untouchable man. It’s good to know that he has finally been fired,” says Msibi.

“Motsoeneng has an unbelievable record of side-stepping legal judgments and repercussions for his misconduct, with court rulings against him as far back as 2015.

“Motsoeneng has undoubtedly brought the SABC not only into disrepute but also into financial chaos with his irrational decisions.”

Motsoeneng was found guilty in an internal disciplinary hearing of bringing the SABC into disrepute by holding an unauthorised media conference on April 19 and was fired on Monday.
