ONLINE VEHICLE AND DRIVER’S LICENCING SYSTEM: SOLUTION OR MASSIVE RIP-OFF?  

 

OUTA has written to the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula about this and other issues, suggesting that government should extend the validity of drivers licence cards from 5 years to 10 years. Since we live in a digital age, online solutions can go far to help ease the huge backlog, but not if online systems increase the costs to motorists by 250% or more.  OUTA therefore objects to the online licence renewal system recently launched by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC). This seems to be an unacceptable money-making scheme. Be warned: getting your vehicle licence renewed online, will increase the cost from R150 to R530, plus another R99 courier fee. Read more here:
