OUTA calls for R1 decrease in fuel levy

The burden of high fuel levies, which impact on the current high fuel price, is the direct result of the past decade of corruption and abuse of public funds.

While Government knuckles down to do the hard work of reclaiming stolen money and charging those who have defrauded our state, along with ensuring our taxes are used in a manner that is in the best interests of the people, South Africans need some relief today. The journey of recovery is long and we cannot continue to pay the price of corruption while Government cleans its house.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) is here to send a strong message to all government officials: Our taxes and levies are not your slush fund!

We understand that a R1/litre reduction in the fuel levy will impact Treasury’s income by approximately R23 billion a year, however, we also know that corruption and maladministration costs this country far more than this amount each year. By reducing the high fuel levies and tax burden on society, Government will be forced to find the money through improved efficiency and reduced wasteful expenditure.

We also call on Treasury to conduct a full independent inquiry into the Road Accident Fund (RAF), where maladministration appears to be rife.

Mr President and Minister Nene, your people need your intervention. Show us that you care about tackling the waste of taxpayers' money by urgently investigating the Road Accident Fund and reducing the fuel levy.
